Email and mobile transfers

Need to pay a friend back for lunch? Securely send and request money from almost anyone in minutes, no matter where they bank. You can also add recipients from your contacts and request money from multiple people to easily split a bill. Through our mobile app with ZelleSM, all you need is their mobile phone number or email address.

Types of transfers

With Online Banking, you can make the following types of electronic funds transfer:

Between accounts you own at Bank of America

Make transfers from checking and savings to:

  • Eligible checking and savings
  • Line of credit
  • Credit card
  • Retail loans and mortgages
  • Investments

Make transfers from line of credit to:

  • Checking and savings
  • Line of credit
  • Credit card
  • Retail loans and mortgages

Make transfers from credit card to:

  • Checking and savings

Make transfers from investment to:

  • Checking and savings (only individual brokerage accounts and joint tenants with rights of survivorship brokerage accounts are eligible for Online Banking transfers.)

From your personal account(s) to the personal account(s) of other Bank of America customers

Make transfers from checking and savings to:

  • Checking and savings

Make transfers from line of credit to:

  • Checking and savings

Between your personal Bank of America account(s) and in-network account(s) at other financial institutions, if you sign up for the email and mobile transfer service

Make transfers from checking and savings to:

  • Checking and savings

Between your personal Bank of America account(s) and the personal account(s) you own at other financial institutions, if you sign up for the transfers the outside Bank of America service area

Make transfers from line of credit to:

  • Checking and savings

Between your personal Bank of America account(s) and in-network account(s) at other financial institutions, if you sign up for the email and mobile transfer service

Between your personal Bank of America account(s) and the personal account(s) you own at other financial institutions,if you sign up for transfers outside Bank of America service area

Transfers with investment accounts you own at other financial institutions are available based on a defined list of investment firms within Online Banking. Transfers with investment accounts you own at Bank of America are only permitted with internal deposit accounts.

Set up recurring or future-dated transfers

You can schedule future-dated transfers between your Bank of America accounts up to a year in advance. Recurring transfers can be made at regular intervals, such as once a week, once a month, every 3 months and more. There are some limitations to the types of accounts available for recurring or future-dated transfers. See the Online Banking Service Agreement or help within Online Banking for specifics.

Available funds in your account(s)

Registered recipients who have Bank of America accounts and are receiving money from a Bank of America customer will have funds delivered immediately. Customers receiving money into accounts at other banks or receiving money from other banks will have funds delivered to their banks within 3 business days after registering an email address or mobile number.

Using your personal or business credit card to transfer funds

You can make immediate transfers from your personal and business credit card to your linked checking or savings account. Transfers from your credit card will be treated as cash advances. Please see your card service agreement for more details.

If you would like to pay your Bank of America personal credit card bill, you can use the Transfer Funds function to make either immediate, future-dated or recurring transfers. All you need to do is select your credit card account as the "To" account and follow the instructions.

Business Card accounts can also be paid using bill pay functionality.

Transfer funds to your mortgage, loan or line of credit

You can make immediate, future-dated, or recurring payments from your account online using Transfer Funds. You also have several different payment options with this service—regular payment, principal only, and escrow only (mortgage only).

Can I transfer funds between business accounts?

You can transfer funds among all of your business accounts except your business Certificate of Deposit (CD). Transfers from Business Credit Express line of credit accounts can be made only to your linked checking or savings accounts.

Transfer between business and personal accounts

If you are a sole proprietor and have your personal and business accounts linked to your Online ID, you can transfer funds between your eligible personal accounts and your business accounts. If you are not a sole proprietor, you cannot transfer funds from your personal accounts to your business accounts.

Do I need SafePass to send an international wire transfer?

You do not need SafePass to send an international wire transfer unless you exceed a specific limit set by your account type. If you exceed this limit, you’ll be prompted to enroll in SafePass. When sending an international wire transfer to a new account, you’ll need either your Bank of America credit or debit card information (account number, expiration date and 3-digit security code) or the one-time Passcode from your SafePass mobile device.
