Student Leaders

Since 2004, our Student Leaders® program has helped prepare high school students for the workforce by connecting them to skills development and leadership training. Through paid internships with local nonprofits like Habitat for Humanity Portland Region, they gain practical work and life experiences. It's just one more way we're working to build a better future for all.

Hear from Roger Hinshaw, President of Bank of America Oregon & Southwest Washington, about our role in keeping Oregon & Southwest Washington moving forward.

Let’s build something together

Bank of America has been a long-time advocate for workforce development and job creation within Oregon and Southwest Washington. We partner with local leaders and organizations at the intersection of education and economic development to help connect individuals with secure family-wage careers. These efforts encompass skills development, education on viable career paths and networking programs that bring Portland’s major employers together with local students and talent from historically marginalized communities.

To further support advancing economic mobility in our region, we work with local organizations to address food insecurity as well as provide access to affordable housing and healthcare to our community members in need. And to support the region’s vital small businesses, we provide financial mentorship to entrepreneurs throughout the region. We address these pressing community needs through philanthropy, strategic partnership and by mobilizing our employees to provide thousands of volunteer hours each year.

Jobs that pay a living wage — and so much more

Portland Community College provides educational and career development services to residents of five Oregon counties, with support from the PCC Foundation. The organization’s extensive experience with Black and Latino communities, vulnerable populations — including people with health challenges, those with a history of housing insecurity or incarceration, and English-language learners — helps coordinate education, social services and job assistance so each participant can achieve economic self-sufficiency. As Oregon enters a post-Covid recovery, training programs are in high demand, underscoring a need for additional funding for the organization to provide comprehensive support for local residents and businesses.

Supporting economic opportunity for diverse people & communities

At Bank of America, we have a long-standing commitment to support economic opportunity for diverse people and communities. We are doing this by building upon our existing efforts and leveraging our strengths: creating more affordable housing and expanding home ownership, increasing lending and support to minority-owned small businesses, championing job training and career readiness and addressing health disparities like access to care. We continue to focus on working collaboratively across sectors to advance opportunities that will create real impact in the lives of individuals and for the communities we serve, using the past to inform our perspective and understanding as we tackle barriers within our communities.
