  • Hide What are check images of canceled checks?

    Check images are pictures of your canceled checks. Each canceled check is scanned, and the digital image is stored in our computer system. Check images are then printed clearly in numerical order and included with your monthly account statement.

    Each page of check images will show up to 10 images of the front side of your canceled checks for personal accounts. View a sample of a check image of how check images appear in your statement.

    For New York residents and small business accounts, each page will show up to 5 images of the front and back of your canceled checks. View a sample of a check image of how check images will appear in your statement.

    Images of canceled checks are available online for 12 months. You can view or print these check images at anytime.

  • Show How do I order a copy of a canceled check from my checking account?

    Copies of canceled checks are available for up to 7 years from the date they are posted to your account.

    To order check copies, sign in to Online Banking and select your account, then select the Information & Services tab.

    For copies of checks more than 18 months old, you will need the check number, date and amount for each check ordered.

    Please note: A fee may apply for ordering check copies. Refer to the Schedule of Fees associated with your account to learn which fees may apply for your account.

  • Show Why is Bank of America providing check images?

    Bank of America customers who receive check images benefit from simplified record-keeping and reduced storage requirements for canceled checks. And since images are in numerical order, it’s very easy to locate a check on your statement.

  • Show Can check images be used for proof of payment, taxes, IRS audits, etc.?

    The IRS, Federal Reserve, local and state governments, courts of law and merchants generally accept check images as valid proof of payment.

  • Show Why are you sending me images of checks instead of sending me the originals? Can I still get my original checks?

    We do not return original checks in statement.  You can receive images of your checks in your monthly statement for a monthly fee.  With check images you benefit from simplified record-keeping and reduced storage requirements for canceled checks.  Since images are in numerical order, it's very easy to locate a check on your statement.

  • Show How much does it cost to have check images included with my statement?

    We generally charge a monthly fee for including one or more check images with your statement. Please see your Personal Schedule of Fees for more information.

  • Show What is Check 21?

    The Check Clearing for the 21st Century Act (Check 21) is a federal law allowing banks that process checks to convert them to substitute checks to make the exchange of funds easier. This improves the efficiency and safety of the nation’s check payment system.

  • Show Can I receive check images with my Braille or large print statement?

    No, check images are not available for Braille or large print statements at this time.

  • Show Will I receive check images for all of my checking and money market accounts?

    For most customers, yes. However, if you currently have Check Safekeeping, you will not receive check images in your monthly statement. Check Safekeeping is a service where the bank keeps a copy or digital image of canceled checks for 7 years instead of returning them with the account statement.

  • Show If my combined statement includes more than 1 checking account, what will I receive?

    In most states, if you have a combined statement, the check images are available only for your primary checking account. All canceled checks for other accounts will be held by us according to the Check Safekeeping Service as described in your account agreement.

  • Show Can I see my statements online? Can I see my statements with check images online?

    Yes, your statements with check images are now available online when you Go Paperless. With our online statements service, we provide images of the front of your canceled checks as part of your statement – up to 10 images per page – and you receive your statements online instead of in the mail. That means you can view, print, and download up to 18 months of your statements with check images online at any time, at no charge.

    There are many advantages to stopping mail delivery of your paper statements.

    • You receive exactly the same information in an online version of your statement through Online Banking as you would with a paper version.
    • You get an email each month notifying you that your statement is available for viewing and printing online.
    • You receive your online statements several days before you receive your paper statements.
    • You can order copies of paper statements beyond what is available online. We keep copies of your statements for 7 years.
    • You can resume getting your statements with Check Safekeeping or check images in the mail at any time. If you are a Bank of America eBanking customer, please note that you will need to have paperless statements to avoid the monthly fee.
    • You may be able to help reduce your threat of mail fraud or identity theft.
  • Show How do I choose paperless, online-only statements or stop mail delivery of my statements?

    To make this change, sign in to Online Banking, and select Go Paperless under your eligible accounts on the Accounts tab. eBanking customers must select online paperless statements to avoid the monthly fee. If you are not an Online Banking customer, enroll in Online Banking and stop your paper statements today.

    If you have selected paperless delivery for your accounts or document groups, your paperless settings will apply to new document types as they are added to the account or document group in Online Banking and become eligible for paperless delivery. We send you email notifications when a document or statement is available for viewing. Remember, paperless settings may take up to 2 months before they are effective.

  • Show I currently pay a monthly fee to get images of my checks with my statement. Can I avoid this fee?

    Yes, you can avoid the fee by switching to our Check Safekeeping service. Contact your Client Manager or a customer service representative at the number listed on your statement. You can also sign in to Online Banking, and select Go paperless under your eligible account(s) on the Accounts Overview screen. When you go paperless, your Online Banking statements will include your check images as part of the statement. You can also view your check images within your Account Activity for 12 months.
