What is Bank of America Advantage Banking?

Advantage Banking is a checking account with 3 account settings for different financial needs.

What account settings are available?

  • Bank of America Advantage SafeBalance Banking™ (formerly SafeBalance Banking®)

  • Bank of America Advantage Plus Banking™ (formerly Bank of America Core Checking®)

  • Bank of America Advantage Relationship Banking™ (formerly Bank of America Interest Checking®)

Can I keep using my current account with no interruptions?

Yes. Your monthly maintenance fee, account number, checks and debit cards remain the same, and there’s no need to update your digital wallets or Zelle® registration.

   

How is SafeBalance Banking® changing?

SafeBalance Banking® is now Advantage SafeBalance Banking.

The monthly maintenance fee and key features are the same: Get help spending only what’s in your account to help avoid going into overdraft, pay no overdraft fees and get convenient access without paper checks.

Preferred Rewards savings and benefits

Advantage SafeBalance Banking accounts are now eligible for our Preferred Rewards and Banking Rewards programs and benefits, including monthly maintenance fee waivers.

Scheduling payments through Bill Pay

After November 11th, when you pay a bill, the debit from your account will typically occur on the Deliver By date (which may be 2-7 days after the Send On date). Make sure you have enough money in your account a few days before the scheduled delivery date and keep it available until the payment is deducted.

Switching to a new account setting

After November 20th, you can switch between any of the 3 Advantage Banking account settings if your financial needs change. Just schedule an appointment at a financial center or call the number on the back of your debit card. You’ll keep the same account number and debit card even after you’ve switched.

How is Core Checking changing?

Core Checking is now Advantage Plus Banking.

The key features are the same: Get convenient access with multiple ways to waive the monthly maintenance fee and optional Overdraft Protection.

Here's what's changing:

Switching to a new account setting

After November 20th, you can switch between any of the 3 Advantage Banking account settings if your financial needs change. Just schedule an appointment at a financial center or call the number on the back of your debit card. You’ll keep the same account number and debit card even after you’ve switched.

Please note, you won’t be able to continue using paper checks if you switch into the Advantage SafeBalance account setting.

How is Interest Checking changing?

Interest Checking is now Advantage Relationship Banking.

The key features are the same: Earn interest on your balance, enjoy no-fee services, and link an additional 3 checking and up to 4 savings accounts with no monthly maintenance fee.

Accounts you had linked to your Interest Checking account will remain linked to your Advantage Relationship Banking account.

Here's what's changing:

Including Advantage SafeBalance Banking in your combined balances

If you link an Advantage SafeBalance account to your Advantage Relationship account, the balance will qualify toward the combined balance required to avoid the monthly fee on the Advantage Relationship account.
