Bank of America's commitment to kids is renowned, earning special recognition both locally and nationally. We seek out and underwrite programs supporting children and their special needs. But we don't stop there. Our employees keep current with problems facing our children today, focusing on those we can help solve individually or as a bank.
Youth Job Program:
Launched in 1992, this multimillion dollar commitment has provided employment, mentoring and college planning assistance to almost 400 underserved youth living in the Northwest and state of Virginia. The program, which is completely funded by the bank, was created and introduced by Bank of America associates following former Seattle Mayor Norm Rice's appeal to local businesses to increase their summer hiring of minority youth. Since then, the program has expanded to include students from 15 cities. Students are given jobs at the bank, and they meet weekly with volunteer mentors who help the student live up to their potential and to successfully complete high school.
