We're committed to creating positive change in the communities where we live and work through our philanthropic efforts, associate volunteerism, community development activities, support of arts and culture programming and environmental initiatives.

Each year, the Bank of America Corporation and the Bank of America Charitable Foundation donate more than $200 million to help strengthen the diverse communities we serve. In 2009, Bank of America will begin delivering on a new 10-year, $2 billion charitable giving goal to address critical needs in our communities. Our support includes, but is not limited to, the following initiatives:

  • The Neighborhood Excellence Initiative® - more than $20 million invested annually through the Bank of America Charitable Foundation's signature philanthropy program which recognizes Neighborhood Builders®, Local Heroes ™ and Student Leaders® in 44 domestic markets and London.

  • Local and national grants programs - more than $158 million in 2008 donated in support of organizations such as the United Way, Feeding America and Habitat for Humanity International.

  • Matching Gifts - more than $25 million donated to nonprofits receiving charitable contributions from our associates. The Bank of America Charitable Foundation matches all associate gifts to eligible nonprofit organizations dollar-for-dollar up to $5,000 each calendar year.
By partnering with local community leaders, we identify priorities in each market we serve and determine how our charitable investments can have the greatest and most positive impact in those neighborhoods. Each day, we strengthen the health and vitality of our neighborhoods by building the capacity of charitable organizations and investing in the leaders of today and tomorrow.

Overall, our giving falls into four categories critical to the long-term success of our neighborhoods: Community Development/Neighborhood Preservation, Education, Health and Human Services, and Arts and Culture.
