In 1995, Chicago financial consultant Robert Burke took his career in a new direction when he recruited 90 professional colleagues to help 120 low-income families complete their tax forms. A decade later during the 2005 tax season, Robert's Tax Assistance Program (TAP) brought together more than 1,700 volunteers – including Bank of America associates – to assist more than 10,000 families, enabling them to receive more than $23 million in refunds. The program is now year-round, offering financial literacy seminars to adults and teens and one-on-one financial counseling in addition to tax preparation. |
